Buying an unstitched suit gives you complete freedom over the fit and style. But before you order, it is natural to wonder: is there enough fabric, and will it work for my size? Here is everything you need to know.
What comes in one unstitched suit set
Every unstitched suit set from The Syma Closet includes three pieces:
- Kurta fabric: 2.5 metres
- Bottom fabric: 2.5 metres
- Dupatta: 2.25 to 2.5 metres
The kurta and bottom pieces are for stitching, while the dupatta comes ready to wear.
What can I stitch from 2.5 metres of kurta fabric?
2.5 metres of kurta fabric is generous. In most sizes, it is enough for:
- A straight kurta, the easiest and most versatile style
- An A-line kurta, flattering on every body type
- A farshi suit, for a graceful, traditional look
- A co-ord set, for a modern, put-together style
A straight or A-line kurta works for every size. Farshi and co-ord styles work in most sizes too.
Will it fit my size?
For most customers, the answer is yes. If you wear a larger size and want a farshi or co-ord style, message us before ordering. We will look at the specific suit and help you choose the style that makes the best use of the fabric, so you are never left short.
What can I stitch from the bottom fabric?
The 2.5 metres of bottom fabric gives your tailor room for classic styles like straight pants, palazzos or a salwar. If you are planning a very wide or heavily flared bottom, check with your tailor before cutting.
Tips before you visit your tailor
- Decide your style first. Knowing whether you want a straight, A-line, farshi or co-ord style helps your tailor plan the cut and use the fabric well.
- Pre-soak cotton suits. Before stitching or the first wash, soak cotton fabric in water with alum (fitkari) and salt for 3 to 4 hours or overnight. This helps set the colour.
- Ask about lining. Lighter fabrics such as mulmul, chiffon and some pale colours can be slightly sheer, so a lining adds comfort and coverage.
- Plan the embroidery placement. Show your tailor where the handwork sits on the fabric so the neckline and borders fall exactly where they should.
